Getting started

Postlude watches for your finished Fathom recordings, writes a follow-up email from what was actually said on the call, and lets you review it and send it from your own Gmail. Here is the shortest path from signing up to your first draft.

1. Sign up

  1. Create your account at the signup page and confirm your email address.
  2. You land on a short Get set up checklist. It is also always available from Setup in the left menu, which shows how many required items are left.

Your free trial starts when your workspace is created and lasts 14 days or 15 calls, whichever comes first. No card is needed.

2. The two things you need for a first draft

  • Your name. It is how your follow-ups are signed.
  • Your own Fathom. Press Connect Fathom and approve the request on Fathom's screen. Postlude is then told whenever one of your recordings is ready. Each person on a team connects their own Fathom.

That is all. You do not need to connect Gmail or a CRM, write a template, or describe your business before your first draft. Postlude uses a neutral call outcome called "General follow-up" until you set up your own.

3. Have a call

When a recording you made in Fathom finishes processing (Fathom usually needs a few minutes after the call), Postlude creates the call, adds the first person outside your company on the invite as the contact (creating them if they are new), and writes a draft. It appears on your Dashboard with a Review draft button.

Want to see a draft before your next call? Open a contact, choose Log a call, and paste a transcript. Postlude drafts from it the same way.

If something stops a draft (for example everyone on the call is on your own team), the call is flagged with a Fix button instead of failing silently. See Troubleshooting.

4. Review and edit the draft

  • The draft opens in the composer. Switch between the Concise, Warm and Formal tabs: each tone is its own version, and you can generate or adapt the ones you want.
  • Edit the subject and body directly, then choose Save edits. Edits are how Postlude learns your voice over time.
  • Anything that still needs your input appears as a highlighted [[Placeholder]]. Postlude will not let you send until you have filled those in.

5. Send it

Sending goes out from your own Gmail address, so connect Gmail first (Setup shows it as "Before you send"). Until you do, the Send button reads Connect Gmail to send, and the draft stays a draft.

  1. Choose Send email. A confirmation shows who it is going to.
  2. The first person on the call is the To recipient. Anyone else you add is a Cc (up to 10 people in total). Nothing is ever sent without your click.
  3. After it is sent, that call is locked, and if you have connected a CRM the email is logged there.

6. Make drafts sound more like you (optional, any time)

Everything else on the Setup page is optional, and each row links to where it lives: what your business sells, your sales process, your formatting preferences, your own call outcomes, a sample of your writing, your email signature, templates, and your CRM and Slack. Team members see just the personal ones (your writing sample and signature). The Walk me through it button steps through the writing-related ones, and every step can be skipped.
